Functional narrative

The exact function of the desiccation-related protein is still under study; however, it is believed to assist certain plants like Craterostigma plantagineum to surviving in areas with harsh drought-like conditions. Desiccation-related protein interacts with water and belongs to the plant dehydrin family. It has been proposed that when water availability decreases the desiccation related protein undergoes a conformation change to mimic the presence of water; however this has yet to be proven.
