 List of all structural/functional types

The Protein Quartet model of protein function proposed by Uversky (Uversky V. "Natively unfolded proteins: a point where biology waits for physics." Protein Science, 2002, 11:739-56) specifies that function can arise from any of the four conformations (Ordered, Molten Globule, Pre-Molten Globule, Random Coil) or transitions between any two conformations. Accordingly the following list of structural/functional types was adopted:

Functional/structural type
Function arises from the disordered state
Function arises via a disorder to molten globule transition
Function arises via a disorder to order transition
Function arises via a disorder to pre-molten globule transition
Function arises from the molten globule state
Function arises via a molten globule to disorder transition
Function arises via a molten globule to order transition
Function arises via a molten globule to pre-molten globule transition
Function arises from the ordered state
Function arises via an order to disorder transition
Function arises via an order to molten globule transition
Function arises via an order to pre-molten globule transition
Function arises from the pre-molten globule state
Function arises via a pre-molten globule to disorder transition
Function arises via a pre-molten globule to molten globule transition
Function arises via a pre-molten globule to order transition
