Functional narrative

Nonhistone chromosomal protein HMG-14 belongs to the HMG-14/HMG-17 protein family. It was shown by CD and NMR that HMG-14 does not form secondary or tertiary structure in solution. The conformation when bound to the inner side of nucleosomes is dependent on its binding to other components of the histone-DNA complex.
