Functional narrative

Lymphoid enhancer-binding factor-1 is a sequence-specific and cell-type-specific DNA binding protein that is involved in the Wnt signaling pathway. Regulation of T-cell receptor alpha enhancer function is controlled by the TCF/LEF family. Lef-1 is also an architectural protein that facilitates the binding of other transcription factors to the corresponding DNA sequence to activate the transcription of target genes. In the presence of CTNNB1 and EP300 a complex is formed to facilitate gene transcription. The HMG domain (residues 279 – 365) plus the remaining C-terminal end contain the DNA-bending and protein-DNA binding disordered amino acids.
