Functional narrative

The high-affinity binding region of the protein ADR-1 binds to DNA, and with the aid of zinc fingers forms a molecular complex. ADR-1, located in the nucleus, is a transcription factor and is essential in the activation of alcohol dehydrogenase 2 (ADH2) in Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Baker’s Yeast). During glucose repression, Ser-230 is phosphorylated, which prevents the transcription of ADH2. It binds to the activation sequence UAS1 in the promoter region of ADH2.
