Functional narrative

UniProt uses alternatively-spliced product 4 as its canonical sequence. Disorder is characterized on alternatively spliced versions of the protein; see DisProt records P00692_A001 and P00692_A002.
------------------------------------
Plays a role in the biomineralization of teeth. Seems to regulate the formation of crystallites during the secretory stage of tooth enamel development. Thought to play a major role in the structural organization and mineralization of developing enamel. Several forms are produced by C-terminal processing. Belongs to the amelogenin family.
